Life can throw challenges our way, anxiety can develop, and conflicts can occur in our romantic relationships that create a breakdown in communication. I help high achieving women who identify as having a perfectionistic personality type learn to manage anxious thoughts and find more balance in life. Because our romantic relationships can play such a HUGE role in our lives, providing couples with effective strategies for increasing healthy communication and feeling more connected is a subset of my current counseling practice.

A little bit about me
I’ve actively worked in the mental health field since 2005 and started Humanitas Counseling in 2017 in Virginia, although I am originally from the beautiful Gulf Coast of Florida. My husband and I relocated to southern California and I am so thrilled to be providing down to earth quality therapy to women and couples in Agoura Hills and statewide in CA and VA with telehealth!
Therapy style and approach
Over the years, I’ve seen time and time again how MUCH our thoughts can influence our actions and behaviors. As a result, I heavily utilize techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and psychodynamic counseling (in a nutshell-I’m genuinely interested in understanding who you are, the experiences you’ve had in life, and helping you understand how these all can be interconnected). In providing a down to earth and authentic space for us to have real conversations without judgment, this is where I’m able to help you recognize (and change!) negative self-talk, increase assertive communication, better manage anxious thoughts, and increase self confidence so you can live more authentically as your true self.
Opening up can be difficult and the relationship you have with your therapist is paramount in the healing process. If you have tried therapy before without success, or have been curious about how counseling can help, I invite you to reach out!
The main therapeutic theories and modalities I subscribe to are:
Personal beliefs that are also my professional beliefs
I believe all women possess internal strength and fortitude. Unhealthy relationships, difficult experiences in life, and messaging received along the way can cause you to lose sight of these inherent strengths. My hope with all clients I meet with is to help you reconnect with these internal strengths, know who you are at a core level, and feel empowered to live *your definition* of a fulfilling life. Life can be very unpredictable (and difficult!) but if your perspective and sense of identity are in a healthy place, you have the tools to face challenges, and you’re motivated to feel better, then change can occur.
My style in the therapy room is welcoming, compassionate, and down to earth. I believe in practicing the very concepts we may talk about and do not ask you to do something that I myself would not do. Both personally and professionally, I have never been one to shy away from talking about difficult subject matters. I’m passionate about providing a nonjudgmental space for you to share your concerns, thoughts, and experiences.
Logistically, I practice in Agoura Hills and chose this location specifically due to it’s ease of access, private waiting room, and private entrance. My goal is for you to feel comfortable, be able to take a moment to yourself before therapy starts, and have easy access to my office. Additionally, with the explosion of telehealth, I am happy to offer continued online counseling services to clients statewide in Virginia and California.
Please e-mail or call 757-739-6771 for current new client availability and scheduling.
I graduated with honors and received my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Psychology from the University of West Florida. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia, and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (#14053) in California. I also obtained additional education and am a Certified Forensic Neuroscience Informed Practitioner and a Board Certified Forensic Mental Health Evaluator.
Over the course of my work in the mental health field, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a variety of wonderful people experiencing a range of different symptoms and life difficulties that were negatively impacting their mental health. From working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in the psychiatric hospital setting, providing crisis intervention and behavioral health assessments in the emergency department setting, and to now owning my practice, no topic is off limits.
